Sanatoriums of Tskaltubo

Sanatoriums of Tskaltubo carry traces of lived life. In these abandoned buildings with high ceilings and endless rooms, people took refuge after the war in Abkhazia.
Approaching the buildings, one solely sees the pride of Soviet architecture. However, once inside the presence of past lives envelopes every corner: yellowed books and torn newspapers, toys with mismatched pieces, scattered footwear, clothes, beddings… Tskaltubo’s sanatoriums harmonize nature and architecture, yet in this midst of grandeur, one cannot help feeling restless and mournful since the space suggests intimate contemplation of the consequences of war.
